Some highlights from a legacy of unforgettable experiences
For almost half a century, we've been at the forefront of delivering audio experiences that resonate. From iconic festivals and sporting events to groundbreaking, continent-spanning live tours and televised performances, our dedication, and passion for live sound has allowed us to be an integral part of countless memories that resonate long after the lights go down.
1975
The iconic band Pink Floyd purchased a building at 35 Britannia Row, Islington, London, to convert into a recording studio, offices and warehouse for their ever-increasing lighting and audio touring equipment. The breaks between tours were becoming longer. During a break, the band encouraged their crew to rent out their equipment to other bands. The Britannia Row group of companies was born. It could be said that our first gig was in July 1975 at Knebworth Park, the final show on Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ tour in front of over 100,000 fans.
1976
We provided audio to the iconic British band Queen in front of a record-breaking audience of 150,000 at Hyde Park, London.
1977
Pink Floyd’s ‘In the Flesh’ tour played in support of the band’s ‘Animals’ album. Britannia Row Productions provided the tour’s audio solutions.
1978
Britannia Row provided audio support to The Picnic at Blackbushe Aerodrome, an all day festival featuring Bob Dylan, Joan Armatrading and Eric Clapton.
1979
Our working relationship with Peter Gabriel and The Cure began and continues to this day. That same year, Bryan Grant joined us. We also provided full production for the legendary Pink Floyd ‘The Wall’ concerts.
1980 - 1982
We provided full production for Stevie Wonder’s long running ‘Hotter than July Musical Picnic’ World Tour. Tours with Peter Gabriel, The Cure and The Thompson Twins continued during this period.
1984
Robbie Williams and Bryan Grant bought Britannia Row Productions from Pink Floyd and began focusing solely on audio.
1985 - 1990
Britannia Row worked with legendary R&B/Soul artists such as Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker and George Benson on major European arena tours, often in the round, with full orchestras.
1987
Mike Lowe joined the company. Robbie Williams joined Pink Floyd’s ‘Momentary Lapse of Reason’ as Tour Director and went on to become one of the world’s leading Production Managers, up until his retirement in 2013.
1989
We provided audio for the first time to Depeche Mode and continue to service their tours to this day, most recently with 'Memento Mori'.
1990
Britannia Row moved from Islington to Wandsworth.
1991
Together with Concert Sound, we provided the audio for Dire Straits’ last 300-date tour which began in July 1992 and ended in October 1993, to audience numbers totalling 7.3m.
1992
We worked on the opening and closing ceremony for The Barcelona Olympics, as well as providing the sound for the elaborate opening ceremony of Euro Disney, Paris. World tours included Peter Gabriel, Depeche Mode, The Cure and grunge pioneers Nirvana. Our relationship with jazz funk band Jamiroquai began at this time and also continues today.
1993
Our working relationship with Britpop titans Oasis began.
1994
Less than two years after our last show with Nirvana, The Foo Fighters were formed, and we’ve worked together ever since. That same year we provided sound for Pink Floyd’s ‘Division Bell’ tour, the highest-grossing tour in history at that time. We also began our long-term working relationship with British pop singer, Robbie Williams.
1995
We covered huge parts of Central London in audio and ran broadcast feeds for the VE & VJ Day celebrations. Our long-standing relationship with the BRIT Awards began.
1996
In a run of major outdoor venues, Oasis played the now legendary Knebworth over two nights. We provided audio to 300,000 fans who were lucky enough to snag tickets (over 2.6 million people applied).
1999 - 2000
Our unwavering relationship with what is now the world's largest children's choir, Young Voices, began and continues to this today.
Britannia Row brought in the Millennium by running the celebrations and televised NYE event from the Millennium Dome featuring Royalty and leading public figures.
2002
Britannia Row provided audio and support to two major events at Buckingham Palace; Proms at The Palace and Party At The Palace to celebrate Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee.
2003
Robbie Williams broke the Knebworth record by welcoming 375,000 fans over 3 nights.
2005
LIVE8 in London’s Hyde Park included a stellar line-up of Annie Lennox, Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Mariah Carey, Elton John, Paul McCartney, REM, U2, The Who and many more. It also included Pink Floyd's first concert with Roger Waters since 1981.
2006
Britannia Row was invited back to the Palace, this time to provide audio and support for Her Majesty’s 80th birthday celebrations.
2007
When the world marked 10 years since the tragic passing of Diana, Princess of Wales, Britannia Row helped commemorate the date with a star-studded concert at Wembley Stadium. In that same year and venue, we worked on Live Earth London, a 23-band bill to raise ecological awareness which included Genesis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Foo Fighters and Madonna. December marked a charity concert featuring Led Zeppelin, their first and only performance since the death of their drummer, John Bonham, in 1980.
2009
A big year for both Oasis fans and Bryan Grant, the latter celebrated 30 years at Britannia Row, while the former played Slane Castle to 80,000 of his fans.
2010
The Britannia Row team headed off to South Africa for the first FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration concert.
2012
We relocated to our extensively renovated new headquarters at 104 The Green, Twickenham, Middlesex.
Providing the live sound for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations marked the beginning of an extraordinary summer, which saw Britannia Row become part of both winning consortiums supplying the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We supplied 18 sound systems and audio personnel for three of the largest indoor sporting venues.
Internally, we hit two big milestones, Mike Lowe celebrated 25 years with us, and Britannia Row Productions Training launched, giving live sound students the opportunity to experience the latest audio technology, procedures, and techniques used on the road.
2013
Beyoncé, John Legend, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and many others played at Twickenham Stadium for ‘Time for Change’, a charity concert that significant raised funds for women’s rights.
2014
Bryan Grant Celebrated 35 years with Britannia Row!
We also provided audio for Hans Zimmer, Bryan Ferry and Sam Smith.
2015
We celebrated 40 years of being in business while providing audio for The Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony & Tournaments. Major tours that year included Noel Gallagher, Mumford & Sons, Simple Minds and Sam Smith.
2016
Britannia Row Productions formed a strategic alliance with US rental company Clair Global.
2017
Clair Global acquired Britannia Row Productions and a wonderful new partnership was forged. The very same year, Mike Lowe celebrated 30 years with us.
2019
Britannia Row Productions named a new generation of business leaders; Nicola Amoruso as Managing Director, Lez Dwight as Director, and Christina Bosch as Financial Director.
2022
In June 2022 Britannia Row provided audio design, equipment, and technical crew to Party at the Palace, a music concert held in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. It featured sets from many Clair Global Group clients including Sir Elton John, Hans Zimmer, Duran Duran and Andrea Bocelli.
In September 2022, Britannia Row acquired world renowned British audio rental firm Skan PA Hire, further strengthening the Clair Global presence in Europe
That same month, our teams deployed equipment and personnel to honour long-time client Foo Fighters, who lost their loved and celebrated drummer, Taylor Hawkins. The Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts were held in London and LA. These shows were nominated in the 'Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special' category at the 2023 Emmy Awards.
In November 2022, Dua Lipa completed her Future Nostalgia tour after six months on the road, establishing herself as an undeniable live performer.
2023
The 2023 BRIT Awards marked a huge moment in pro audio circles. Britannia Row Productions was chosen as the world’s first audio rental company to deploy the L-Acoustics L Series L2 PA system during its pilot phase.
In May, we provided audio design and infrastructure to the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool. The much-loved televised singing competition was watched by 160 million people worldwide.
In July 2023 Harry Styles completed a two-year, record-breaking tour following 169 concerts across the world for ‘Love on Tour’.
The summer of 2023 saw Pink’s Summer Carnival tour begin at the University of Bolton Stadium alongside 28,000 fans.
